St. Nicholas Hospital Services > Ostomy Services

Patients undergoing ostomy surgery, whether temporary or permanent, require intensive physical and emotional care and support to return to their normal daily lives.  Outpatient ostomy services are offered through the Comprehensive Wound Care Center. Both new and continuing patients benefit from comprehensive assessments, advanced treatments, and compassionate counseling provided by a Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Specialist.

The Ostomy Center is designed to meet the needs of the active person with a new or existing colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy.  A Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Specialist meets with individuals and their families before and after surgery and continues to provide ongoing education and support. Long-time ostomy patients benefit from counseling, fittings, updated appliances and other services.

Ostomy care services include:

Pre- and Postoperative counseling to help prepare and assist patients in adjusting to life with an ostomy.

Patients are fitted or refitted with ostomy appliances suited to their individual needs.  Newer appliances have been designed to be more comfortable and easy to use.
