FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Taking Control of Prediabetes Sheboygan , Wis. — Have you heard of prediabetes? It's a condition that affects 79 million Americans. Before people develop Type 2 diabetes, they may have prediabetes - blood sugar levels that are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Studies have shown that people with prediabetes can prevent or delay the development of Type 2 diabetes by up to 58 percent. And for some people, intervening early can even return glucose levels to the normal range. "Managing prediabetes can be accomplished through a healthier lifestyle, and at our prediabetes event, we'll teach people how to do that with diet and exercise," said Robin Leonhardt, Registered Dietician, St. Nicholas Hospital. Early intervention is key. Research shows some long-term damage to the body, especially the heart and circulatory system, may already be occurring during prediabetes.
