St. Nicholas Hospital Freedom Run Results Announced

Sheboygan, Wis. — A record-setting eight hundred runners and walkers participated in the twenty-sixth anniversary of the St. Nicholas Hospital Freedom Run on July 3 rd .

The Freedom Run kicked off Sheboygan's Fourth of July celebrations and featured a five- and two-mile run, and a non-competitive two-mile walk.

Contributions from the Freedom Run benefit the Friends of St. Nicholas Hospital, which supports numerous programs at the Hospital and community outreach initiatives such as:

• Community care program is a St. Nicholas Hospital-funded program that accepts a percentage of financial responsibility for patients who are in need of financial assistance. In fiscal year 2009, St. Nicholas Hospital provided $1,170,684 of assistance to people in the community.
• Community education programs such as the Hope After Loss Organization (HALO), an initiative offering patients, non-patients, and their families support when they experience losses associated with pregnancies.
• Friends Outreach health screenings and education provided for a diverse population. These include blood pressure, heel bone density, blood sugar, and nutrition information.
• Coordination of domestic violence education for faith leaders in our community.
• Miscellaneous community needs/programs are also supported where needed.

Placing first overall in the men's five-mile run was Mark Manz with a time of 26:40. Haley Johnson placed first in the five-mile women's division with a time of 33:19. Ryan Miessen placed first overall in the men's two-mile run with a time of 9:42; and Kathy Waldron placed first overall in the women's two-mile run with a time of 12:47.
