TV Tokyo Visits St. Nicholas Hospital FastCare Clinic at Shopko
Sheboygan, Wis. Mariko Daicho, Producer TV Tokyo and her film crew visited Sheboygan on Tuesday, July 15 to produce a documentary-style film regarding some of the healthcare alternatives offered in the United States. The current Japanese healthcare system is bankrupting its country. Daicho and her crew are documenting innovative alternatives for delivering healthcare.
FastCare differs from a regular trip to the doctor in the following ways:
- Services are offered for a flat fee of $54
- The clinic accepts walk-in patients (no appointments are needed)
- There is an emphasis on short waiting times
- FastCare is open seven days a week, including weekday evenings, every day of the year except Christmas.

FastCare is expected to open in August 2009. St. Nicholas Hospital nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants will staff the clinic under the direction of a primary care physician. Services will be provided according to the guidelines for retail clinics as defined by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Medical Association.

The clinic accepts walk-in patients rather than appointments, with an emphasis on short waiting periods. Services are offered for a flat fee of $54. FastCare is open seven days a weekincluding weekday eveningsevery day of the year except Christmas. Services include "everyday" healthcare needs of patients over 18 months of age, including sore throats, earaches, sinus congestion, flu symptoms, urinary tract infections, and basic laboratory services. Patients will be seen by a nurse practitioner or physician assistant who will refer to a primary care physician if necessary. St. Nicholas Hospital nurse practitioners or physician assistants will staff the new FastCare clinic under the direction of a primary care physician. Services will be provided according to the guidelines for retail clinics as defined by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Medical Association.
