St. Nicholas Hospital Celebrates National Volunteer Week
Sheboygan, Wis.St. Nicholas Hospital will recognize the dedicated services provided by its many volunteers during National Volunteer Week which is observed from April 18-24. Various departments will be acknowledging the valuable assistance their volunteers offer them and the Hospital will hold an Ecumenical Service on Wednesday, April 24, 2010, in the Chapel at 1:30 p.m., followed by a reception honoring the volunteers in the Christopher Room.
Nearly every day of the year, more than 200 Hospital volunteers manage and staff the Gift Shop, direct patients and visitors to the right locations, carry out clerical duties, and escort children on tours. Many of them also assist staff at flu clinics and health fairs, help at special events sponsored by the Hospital, visit hospice patients and families in their homes, and distribute the Sacrament of Holy Communion. In a year's time, St. Nicholas Hospital volunteers have generously given nearly 17,000 service hours to the Hospital.
A significant number of volunteers join the Partners of St. Nicholas Hospital and engage in sponsoring fund raising activities such as the Christmas LoveLights, the Annual Scholarship Card Party, the Spring Flower Sale, and books sales. Their successful efforts result in providing financial support to the LifeLine program, scholarship assistance to area high school graduating seniors, and contributing to various worthy Hospital projects.
"I'd like to thank all of the volunteers for their countless good deeds," said Cynthia Bertsch, Director of Fund Development and Advocacy. "Their contributions of time, compassion, and joy make a tremendous difference in the lives of our patients, their families, and our Hospital staff."
"The volunteer's extraordinary ways of reaching out to others is greatly appreciated," said Sara Hester-Johnson, Social Worker and Hospice Volunteer Facilitator. "Thanks to each and every St. Nicholas Hospital volunteer."
