We recommend you be seen by a doctor if you have fever over 101 degrees, a cough, and any one of the following:
- trouble breathing
- you are pregnant
- younger than 2 years of age
- you have a serious medical condition such as asthma, cancer, heart problems, or if you are taking steroids (prednisone)
Please do not come to the Emergency Department requesting H1N1 (Swine) Flu testing if you are not experiencing the symptoms noted above. You may put yourself at risk for accidental exposure to the H1N1 (Swine) Flu. |
St. Nicholas Hospital instituted the precautionary measure of providing masks to patients entering the hospital with the symptoms noted above.
Additional guidelines for hospital visitors include:
- Do not come to the Hospital to visit a patient if you are experiencing signs of illness (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea).
- Try to limit visitors to 1-2 people per patient.
- Try to limit visits by children under the age of 18, as they are the most likely to be infected with H1N1.
Avoid spreading the H1N1 (Swine) Flu
- wash your hands
- stay in good general health
- get plenty of sleep
- be physically active
- manage your stress
- drink plenty of fluids
- eat nutritious food
- do not touch surfaces that may be contaminated with the flu virus
- avoid close contact with people who are sick
