A Sheboygan mom had an extra special reason to celebrate Mother’s Day this year: She welcomed a baby into the world!

Stroke, a disease that affects arteries leading to and within the brain, is the fifth-leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States, according to the American Stroke Association. A stroke can happen to anyone at any age – men and women of all ages and races. The good news is, up to 80 percent of strokes are preventable.

Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) Eastern Wisconsin Division is pleased to announce Chelsee Brawner, RN, BSN, at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay, as its 2018 Nurse of the Year.

Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care, is recognizing all four HSHS hospitals in Eastern Wisconsin for their work in achieving environmental excellence.

A career fair will be held Wednesday, April 24 at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay to hire for a variety of positions available at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center Green Bay; HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls; and HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan.

HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay, HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan and HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls, will each host a Medication Take-Back drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.

In honor of National Volunteer Week, April 7 – 13, HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital recognizes the hard work, dedication and compassion of its volunteers.

At 10:08 a.m. on Monday, April 1, HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan will participate in the statewide Donate Life Wisconsin Flag-Raising Ceremony and Moment of Silence to honor organ, tissue and eye donors and their families.

Although colon cancer is a preventable and curable disease if caught early, it remains the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women in the United States. HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital and its partner, Prevea Health, offer the following information to help in the screening, prevention and detection of colon cancer.

Half of all Americans have at least one of the top three risk factors for heart disease, according to the CDC. The top three risk factors are: high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol and smoking.
