Cancer Clinical Research

The clinical trial program at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital began in 2011, and each year it continues to grow. St. Nicholas Hospital, Matthews Oncology Associates and the Sheboygan Cancer & Blood Specialists work together to find appropriate clinical trials for patients. Our clinical research associate coordinates the process from start to finish and ensures those participating in trials are following the correct protocol.

“HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital and the medical and radiation oncologists are members of the St. Vincent Cancer Collaborative. This partnership allows us to offer patients in the Sheboygan area many of the same leading-edge clinical trials as the St. Vincent Cancer Research Institute, which is northeast Wisconsin’s research center,” said Brenda Davies, Clinical Research Associate, HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital.

“One of the nicest things about our program is that if there is a trial we don’t currently have open, we often times are able to quickly open it for a patient who can benefit. This allows him/her to stay close to home while participating in a cutting-edge trial,” added Davies.

Currently, clinical trials offered at St. Nicholas include studies in breast, carcinoid, colon/rectal, esophageal, transitional cell, head/neck, liver, kidney, leukemia, lung, lymphoma, melanoma, multiple myeloma, prostate, and sarcoma.
