Childbirth Education Classes

Whether you are preparing to welcome your first baby or are adding to your growing family, there is so much to learn, plan and think about before baby arrives. The knowledgeable instructors at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital Women and Women and Infants Center are here to help you during this most wonderful yet anxious time in your life. We are committed to providing your family with the guidance to make informed health care choices.

 


Before baby's birth

 

Childbirth  Education

This class will provide complete instruction about labor and delivery and will provide practice in relaxation, breathing techniques and positioning. Participants will also learn about medications and medical interventions. Tour or Women and Infants Center also included.
 

Express Childbirth Education

This class is for parents who are short on time or simply need refresher. It is a “brief overview” of what you may expect during labor, comfort measures, and medical interventions. A support person is encouraged to attend. Tour or Women and Infants Center also included.
 

Can’t come to class? Learn online!

Online Childbirth Education

Learn the same essential information online and on your time, including what’s happening to your changing body, how you’ll know when you are really in labor, helpful comfort techniques, advice for partners, an overview of medical procedures, and much more. 
 

Breastfeeding

This course will cover basic breastfeeding techniques, how to establish breastfeeding in the beginning, and how to continue to successfully breastfeed as baby grows. A support person is encouraged to attend.
 

Infant Care

Learn how to care for your new infant. Class will provide parents instruction on diapering, bathing, safety practices, newborn characteristics and more.
 
 

Infant CPR

This non-certification class is available to anyone who wishes to learn the basic skills of resuscitation for a non-breathing or choking infant up to 1 year old. Each participant must register individually due to space limitations.

For Grandparents

Grandparents will learn about the changes since their children were born at this fun and informal class. Share tips and concerns with other grandparents-to-be and  learn how to be supportive without overstepping  boundaries. Tour of Women and Infants Center also included.
 

For Siblings

No doubt about it – a new child brings changes to every family. Help your young children, ages 3-8, feel special while they prepare for the arrival of a new brother or sister. Tour of Women and Infants Center also included.
