Volunteering at
HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital

Our Volunteers play a vital role at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital. Over 115 hospital volunteers collectively contribute more than 16,000 hours of unpaid service each year. They are an integral part of the hospital’s operation and, together with staff; these volunteers add another dimension of care and compassion to those we serve.

By becoming a volunteer at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, you are given opportunities to share your abilities and experiences while at the same time learn new skills and make new friends. Each day as volunteers greet visitors with their friendly smile, escort patients, complete clerical tasks, or work in the gift shop, they lighten the staff’s workload, brighten many people’s spirits, and bring comfort to our patients and their families.

In addition to their volunteer hours within the hospital, members of the auxiliary group known as Partners of St. Nicholas Hospital, provide significant financial assistance through their fundraising events. For example, Christmas Love Lights contributions support our LIFELINE program that enables individuals to continue to live independently.

Earnings from the annual holiday cookie sales, bakeless bake sale, book sale and fall fundraiser raise funds for designated hospital projects. In 2014, the Partners funds helped support the Radiation Therapy remodel project as well as the purchase of the “graduation mugs” that are distributed to all cancer patients upon completion of their radiation program.

Each year the partners give the hospital a share of the gift shop’s proceeds towards the purchase of equipment to enhance patient services and comfort.

We are fortunate and grateful to have people who are generous with their time and resources.
