The St. Nicholas Hospital Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs Received Recertification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Sheboygan, Wis. The St. Nicholas Hospital Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs in the Therapeutic Exercise Department have been recertified through the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
The St. Nicholas Hospital Therapeutic Exercise Department encompasses a variety of medically-supervised progressive exercise and education programs for patients with chronic health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, and diabetes, as well as for individuals recovering from illness or injury. A therapeutic exercise program can help improve patients' quality of life by restoring strength and endurance, plus diminishing pain and fatigue.
"Our programs include lifestyle risk management and clinical exercise. The programs are all individualized to meet the patient's needs and their health condition, provide education, counseling, and comradery," said Carolyn Verhage, Lead RN. The staff enjoys working with the variety of people they meet with and is often rewarded by the progress they see patients make throughout their program.
The AACVPR recertification process involves verification of adherence to the national guidelines, ongoing program improvement, outcome measurement, and a detailed separate application for each of these specialty services for patients with heart and lung diseases.
"St. Nicholas Hospital constantly strives to provide the best quality care possible to our patients and we believe that the AACVPR certification assures our program meets the essential standards of care, and as one of only 1400 programs throughout the country that have met the high standard of AACVPR Certification, we feel very honored to be able to offer these programs to the community," said Mark Hillesheim, PT, MSH, Director, Rehabilitation and Specialty Services.
