New Flu Vaccination Policy for Colleagues at St. Nicholas Hospital
Sheboygan, Wis. — St. Nicholas Hospital will implement a new flu vaccination policy for the 2011 - 2012 flu season. All colleagues and volunteers will be required to receive the annual flu vaccination or wear a mask during work hours. "This policy will help ensure we are doing all that we can to help protect our patients, to help one another live well, and to protect everyone's health and safety," said Karen Millett-Metzler, Infection Preventionist, St. Nicholas Hospital.
Recently, the American Hospital Association endorsed mandatory patient safety policies that require health care workers to be vaccinated against influenza or wear a mask during flu season. This policy aims to achieve the highest level of protection for patients. "Getting a flu vaccination is one of the most effective ways to help prevent unnecessary deaths and stop the spread of this preventable disease," said Millett-Metzler.
Free flu clinics for colleagues begin soon and will conclude by October 15. "High quality care and safety are our priority," said Millett-Metzler. "We're implementing this policy because we care about our colleagues, our families and our patients."
